Campsite La vieille ferme in the southern French Alps

The campsite lies on the edge of Embrun in the southern French Alps, ‘Hautes Alpes’, near the largest water reservoir in France, the ‘Lac de Serre Ponçon’, 200 kilometres south of Grendoble. Fifty kilometres east of Embrun lies the historic city of Briançon, while the pleasant shopping town of Gap lies 40 kilometres to the west. Embrun borders onto the ‘Les Ecrins’ nature reserve, and the Queyras and Marcantour can be found slightly further down.

Lac de Serre Ponçon

This area is known for its clean air, fine climate and many hours of sunshine. As there are mountains as well as water, this area is an ideal base for a versatile (family) holiday: mountain hiking, cycling, trail running, sailing, (kite) surfing, (water) skiing, rafting and lots more!

Everything you need on a daily basis lies within walking distance from the campsite. A 10-minute walk takes you to the beach of the swimming water (plan d’eau) and the pleasant shopping centre of Embrun is only a 20-minute walk away. The Durance River (get-off point for rafting) lies at 200 metres from the campsite. The nearest supermarket is no more than a 10-minute walk away.

Culture

There are a number of historic sites at a few kilometres from the campsite that are worth visiting. During the high season, you can go on guided tours of Castle Picomtal in Crots and the medieval Boscodon Abbey every day.
